From various lists of richest people in
Indonesia you can read in Forbes, chances are you will always see Sukanto Tanoto’s name, and it is not
surprising. Even in his golden years, he is still busy dealing with his global
business, which is the result of global expansion he has developed since early
2000’s. While his business in Indonesia managed to reach various areas in major
islands, he has also managed to expand his business to China, Singapore and
even Brazil.
Sukanto Tanoto: Never Stops Expanding
As a person with strong sense of
achievements, Sukanto Tanoto does not stop expanding and growing his business.
While Asian Agri has been one of palm oil giants in Indonesia since decades
ago, he also managed to invest in China through his RGM Group, which was done
form year 2002 to 2010. From that investment, he managed to earn profits as big
as $3.5 billion, and he managed to make a name in China as one of the most
prominent business people (not to mention that he is also a Chinese descendant
who is very proud of his background).
With Asian Agro Group, Sukanto Tanoto now has
investment and profit sources from no less than 10 countries. His latest
investment project was in Brazil, where he invested at Bahia Pulp, Brazil’s
large pulp industry, through his company Sateri International. The amount of
his investment is $400 million, and it is not likely that Sukanto plans to stop
expanding and looking for opportunities to invest. His company acquired more
than 80% of Klabin Bacell stocks and 100% of Norcell SA, two companies that
formerly owned forest concession for Bahia Pulp in Brazil.
With such widespread global investment and
business projects, it is no wonder that Sukanto Tanoto earned a name in Forbes
as one of the richest and most successful businessmen in the world.
